Since you have it all apart you might as well shave the piston skirt on the intake side.

It will give you more torq and a little more speed. Read up on it. Everyone that does it says that it is an improvement.

The cooked oil is a good observation. You might want to pull the piston and have a look under the top for burned oil inside the piston. If so she's running a little hot. It will give you a good look at the wrist pin and bearing for wear while you're in there.
