It's the common term in BMX circles for a removable cable end. Probably popularised by Odyssey, I reckon.
Odyssey have been selling knarps for a long time and also designed their Evolver brake with the knarp as a main feature of the design... that's pretty much where my bmx tech knowledge ended. (I didn't grow up but my knees got old!)
