Engine Crazy Hot

So after riding about 20 minutes or so at half throttle, my engine seems to be getting up towards 500-800 F. I barely touched my calf to one of the heat fins and got a third degree burn.

Think this is too hot?

yeah, way too hot. it shouldn't break 250 at half throttle, especially in 20 minutes. I'm betting you have an air leak that you need to sort out.

well, putting a #70 jet in, my head temp even while wot for about 20 minutes only gets up to 200. so i know this is too rich. the engine even seems to dislike running so cold.
wonder where that air leak could be.

its actually rather strange. I was riding around for a period of time in 80 degrees, and my intake is actually cold to the touch. it sweats moisture because of the difference in engine temp.

vaporizing liquids absorb heat.

vice versa, heating something vaporizes it.

your intake is acting like a little refrigerator as liquid fuel is vaporized...

hence why small planes fall out of the sky when someone forgets to turn the carb heaters on... they ice up!
