Engine shuts off after short time running

In the mean time, pull the plug, take a close up picture and post it! This will let us know if it's running lean!, Which it sounds like it is! (VERY BAD FOR MOTOR)!

I had sort of the same problem... high revving engine and random 'dying' mid-ride. I finally realized that my gas cap was preventing the tank from venting properly. I drilled a tiny hole in the cap and that solved the problem completely. Try running the bike with the cap unscrewed. If you do drill a hole in the cap, make SURE you cover it at least with a rag when you're storing the bike so the fuel doesn't get condensation, etc in it.

Also, I'm assuming you are checking the air/fuel mixture screw to make sure it's not vibrating into a different position during your ride... that can cause the high revving too... good luck!

High rev

I only get a high rev when i first fire up and engine is cold. then it revs wildly but lift the choke lever a bit and it slows. seconds later choke goes all the way down, no more loud rev. thats my .02

If your carb needle is installed as pictured here...

It's wrong! the needle and "c" clip must be below the silver disk with the slit in it. Otherwise, the needle will be pull up but will only return to a seated position from gravity.

You have proper wording in your description of condition. I can't argue the pictures, unless I took apart my bike, don't have time now. If you are correct, my appollogies to the board. I remember having problem w/my set up! Everybody should check theirs because it's an easy mistake to make!
