Engine won't fit...what now?

Hello,
I just received a grubee 48cc 2-stoke kit and have run into a snag. The 2008 Giant Boulder SE mountain bike I bought recently will not fit the engine:

Unfortunately, it just won't fit. So, I'm using this as an opportunity to build a cool vintage bike :)

Any suggestions on what vintage frames will work without modification? I plan on looking on craiglist for some cheap "tall handlebar" bikes, but I want to make sure the engine will fit. Are there dimensions that are recommended? Hey, any help is awesome and I thank you in advance :)

Best Regards,
Keith

Keith,
The cantilever frame style will easily accept any of the frame-mount engines. Be sure to find one with the 1 inch tubing, as the newer ones with the larger diameter tubing may require drilling through the down tube to mount the engine. I think that is quite likely to weaken the frame. If you're not quite sure what I mean by cantilever frame, it's the stereotypical Schwinn beach cruiser style. I have a Grubee 48cc on this canti-framed Western Flyer: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z21/KilroyCD/My Bikes/ag13015.jpg

drilling thru the frame is a TERRIBLE idea.

what i do, is get some threaded rod of the same pitch as the stock mounting studs (toss those in the trash-ola).
make them about 2 and 1/2" long. thread those into motor, pry them apart, and drop it into frame. i like to use a piece of old innertube between the sharp edges of motor and frame.
flatten the front mount bracket a little.
squeeze the studs together and install the front bracket, washers, and nuts.
hacksaw off the excess rod.
