You don't have to have back pressure too run. They just don't have any power.

Answer this, how is air supposed to get in if he still has exhaust?

re: air can be sucked in because on the pistons down stroke, it creates a
vacuum sucking in air, and depending on how your motor is tuned, it may not run at all.
