Automotive exhaust clamps are incomparably sturdier than the wimpy stock thing. 
But they are meant to dent or crimp the exhaust tubes slightly on an exhaust to help hold the tubes from slipping apart. Be sure to cover those exhaust pipe crimping parts with some metal to spread the load or at least fill in the gap between with epoxy or something so they dont dent your frame's downtube. It may even be necessary to get some metal stril under the U bolt too if your frame tube will dent very easily.
I am sure I don't need to tell you about double nutting. But for all the future forum lurkers: you should be extremely careful to not tighten the front U bolt clamp too much especially on wide diameter tube because it dents easily.
Instead just lock your two nuts together very tightly and the clamp itself stays simply snug.

Yes, it's very important not to over tighten the nuts, thread locker works wonders.
