Fighting the LAW.....Ohio

If I was in a state where it was so hard to legally ride one Id go electric. To me once you cross the line to a moped or a factory scooter your talking M/c to me and it takes the fun out of riding a light weight bicycle that can go any where. If I wanted a small M/C to ride Id get 250cc and pay the full bill. Thats not what I want and isnt as much fun.

Ohio law allows a motorized bike, but, it must be less than 50cc, and no more than 1 brake (output shaft of the engine) horsepower. Also, it cannot exceed 20 MPH on a level surface.

Ref http://law.justia.com/ohio/codes/orc/jd_450101-265b.html A motorized bike is NOT considered to be a 'Motor Vehicle' under Ohio Law.

Other (possibly) pertinent Ohio laws are linked on the Legislation Listing pages 26 and 27.

Given the state of design of sub 50cc engines, you might want to suggest that. if the horsepower limit were raised to 2 HP or less, it would be possible to locate suitable engines. After all, 35cc Honda and R/S 4-stroke engines both supply apx. 1.5 hp, more or less.

Has anyone heard of or knows of any recent information from Ohio in regards to motorized bikes? I saw a couple threads, but nothing new as far as how to get plates. I meet all the requirements, mirror, 50cc or less, but can't figure out how to get a tag from the BMV. They can't figure it out, and neither can the state BMV. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but I want to see if anyone has figured it out in the last three years since the last post on this thread.

Not looking for opinions, looking for someone that's done it or has specific info towards registering.
