Cannonball I think I remember when you were working on that one, that started me searching for one of those engines, they’re as scarce as hens teeth.
It was on the other forum. I built two, I think this one started first. The engines are out there, mostly midwest. They are heavy to ship, so most are local pick up. I was lucky to find ship willing people.

Nice friction drive set up. Very impressive!
Thanks 2soeed! Heres a pic of the drive belt system. The clutch slacks the belt as well as lifts the roller. Im lowering the drive ratio. The original was overdriven.

Ride of the Maytag

Very nice old motor and bike find I might add...When you titled this as, First 'Ride Of The Maytag', All I could think of was das klassischen musik der Richard Wagner - Ritt der Walküren, (Ride of the Valkyries)...lol...lol.

Is there a reason for having the belt in a figure 8 ?
I would think that would make the belt wear faster on the pulleys

I had to reverse the rotation. Friction drive rollers turn backwards to the rotation of the wheel. The belts crossing point learns to play nice together after about 15min of burnishing each other in. Properly aligned a twisted belt lasts a long time.
