My search results across google and this site have lead to nothing at all. ive simply been cleaning it up and adding my own touches to it.

what size headset should i be using? where can i get one, the local bike shops dont know what im talking about or try to sell me a threadless.

im running a mid 50s mercury (read: murray) fork and ive been having a hard time finding the size i need- i have the original cups

1 in. BMX

What you need to fit your older bike is a 1 in. BMX headset Threaded. Tioga makes/made one of the better quality versions of this type of headset and you should be able to still find one. Search for bike shops that do alot of BMX or online BMX parts suppliers. This type of headset even though its called 1 in. is not the same 1 in. as you find on older mountain and road bikes. The Cups for the BMX are larger dia. the same dia as your older cruisers.

Here is a link to a 1 in threaded BMX headset from odyssey http://harriscyclery.net/page.cfm?PageID=49&action=details&sku=HD9000

here is a link to the Tioga Beartrap II headset http://www.amazon.com/Headset-Tioga...e=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1219180154&sr=8-3
