Yea I was worried about that cheap plastic ring ...
But then it came in the mail and I gotta tell you.....
I bet you could not break it if you wanted to !!!!!
it is mega tough high density aerospace grade nylon...
I think you would need a sledge hammer to crack it.
it is much tougher than your bike wheel !!!

Yes, later on I read that it's made up from composite material. Probably easier to manufacture (is produced in a lay up mold) and more durable than metal. A metal hub would have to be rolled and butt welded.
