Found engine rescue.

Gordy, I'm betting if he checks the coil winding with an OHM meter he will find it to be OK. The rust isn't going to affect the magnetic field at all. Have a wonderful Christmas my friend.
It's always worthwhile to check. I was just concerned woth water damage, plus the coils are cheap.

Have a wonderful Christmas as well! Hopefully you can get your bike back a d running in timr ride this spring/summer!

Happy New Year to everyone. I decided to use my own old bike for the project (Kent Seachange), but the frame needed a bit more space to mount the engine a bit down and forward. I used a scrap section of pipe (black pipe/gas pipe) and a 90 degree bend (Rigid Electrical) which worked out perfect, the joints were plug welded with an insert and then welded to the frame in place of the removed forward downtube, looks different and now has the space needed.

I really hope for your sake that the new tubing is not too small for a proper front motor mount to do its job properly.

Did you sit the engine in the frame before you changed it? You might have some new issues now.

Thanks for the input, all comments and suggestions welcome. Still in the early stages of mock-up, lots of head scratching to come. I have a 7 speed donor bike, spares and left over parts from previous builds. Just having fun and not taking silly stuff too seriously beats sitting on the couch watching a box.

A little update on my project, managed to fabricate a Girder look fork and add a few tabs/brackets to the frame, made three different custom front engine mounts and picked the one works the best. I made a bracket to experiment with the clutch cable, not tested yet, i took a few pics to share. Thanks

The front fork looks okay, but the frame needed something more, holes were cut to run the cable/wires through the top tube and a section of 3/4" tube was angle cut and welded into place and smoothed, a new seat post system was fabricated and seems to work so far, the saddle hardware had to be de-rusted and it was all given a coat of primer. The new plan is to use a new 100cc iron sleeve engine, it has to be gone through, cleaned and checked first.

Not much progress last week, but I got a few jobs done on my project, I made a rear carrier and managed to fit it kind of okay for now, the frame got a coat of hunter green and the forks a satin black, a satin clear will blend the two. I've never used one on a build before, but a sturdy center stand makes a difference. I'd like to incorporate a bit of shiny brasswork (fasteners, badges ect.) here and there, maybe.

Center stands make for a nice build. I have a modified whizzer stand on mine and it's well worth the 8lbs of steel lol
