I have a huffy trail runner full suspension MTB that I want to put a motor on, the trouble I’m running into is that it would have to be rear rack mount and I am concerned about how the chain would run with the motor being directly above the rear tire. This would be my first build (had to go the hard way) the bike was gifted by a friend so as of right now I don’t have anything financially into it. Link below is the bike in question

Your pic shows two sets of support struts. The Staton F/D kit has one set of struts (The rear set) that are adjustable for motor mount height. And if further adjustment is needed there are extenders available for to correct the front U bracket.
In the end the mount platform can be adjusted to be horizontal.
My rear mount has front/rear struts. However, though it might be possible to make what you have work on some other style of rear suspension it won't work on the type the OP wants to use for the very reasons I gave.

No real money in selling a walmart bike. While mounting on the rear rack eliminates the need for a sprung chain tensioner, now your suspension has to work much harder, and its not working very well to begin with.

You haven't put any money in yet, that's no problem. Illinois is flat so you could get a decent top speed with any ol china doll. Assuming your brakes are worth a damn.

He would do fantastic with flat turf with my bike the way it's built...I have desert and mountain foot hills I have to be on all the time and it is fantastic, think how much more it would be on flat surfaces.

The F/D kit on a full suspension bike will work just fine. The U clamp is fastened to the suspended upper frame tubes, not the seat post. There are several Staton F/D kits, and older GEBE kits on full suspension bikes.
Here's a link to one.

Could you provide some generalized examples of the compromises? I work remote so time to do this isn't really a factor, cost and planning are my biggest concerns
I've designed a way to give you either a rear rack Staton Inc friction drive or a chain drive using the the full suspension bike in the picture. However, it isn't going to be cheap.

So have you checked into how strict your local Illinois police are, when it comes to gas powered motorized bicycles? There isn't any need to pass this design build to you if your local police aren't going to let you ride it. Or if you simply don't have the budget to build it. You're going to need the mods I'll show you; a Staton Inc kit by itself simply won't work. I'll even explain the reasons why. Just so you'll know I've used a Staton Inc rear rack kit for 14 years. And Yes, on a few occasions I've come up with mods to correct design flaws with some of the SI products. Here's one for you.

Here's a U bracket reinforcement I did by cutting off the sides some 1⅝" unstructured. Without this reinforcement, you can only go so tight before the bracket and back plate starts bending.

If either is the case (legality or financial) you may want to start saving up to do an electric build.
