Gas tank design - and build!

It’s all steel- and rusting already. The Newcastle Heineken types might be aluminum, I don't remember. made that plug cover from a piece of scrap. Maybe 18 gauge? Too thick but it’s what I had and I thought the thin stuff the donor can is made with was too thin. Probably not though.

An aluminum one you could at least solder your fittings on, steel little keg is harder to weld the thin material, you have to be a good welder.

This little tank is steel and solders just fine- what is tricky is the different thickness and material. I used a brass 3/8 - 1/4 npt coupler as petcock ? Hole? Port?
anyway, I guess it’s done.
now it’s time to consider mounting and faux barrel encapsulation.

Wow, that's great, very impressive!!

That's impressive, great job. You said the little barrel holds 5 litres? Or was that compressed beer size? It's still going to have good range.

Thanks for the compliments - it’s encouraging.
Yes the tank wolds 5 liters. Beer doesn’t “compress” that’s the same with any liquid- beer, petrol, milk, seltzer- no compression. That’s why hydrologic lines work. beer in the keg is carbonated as a result under a bit of pressure- 10-15lbs or so, but not compresse.
Bung you say? I see, you are correct. I was thinking in terms of barrels, like wine, where the bung is the plug and the bung hole is where it goes.

Questions first-
there is some surface rust around the fill neck, inside. With flux and solder I’m sure its inside as well. How do I stop this?

what do I use tfinish the wood shell. I’m thinking I might cover with fiberglass like a deader strip canoe. What’s a good small project product?

the commentary- maybe I can make a silk purse from a sow’s ear. The pictures tell the story- pallet becomes staves becomes bitchin barrel gas tank. If I calculate the time involved I could have chartered a jet to fly my bike and me to Jesse James personal shop and conscripted him to build a tank. if a person has the proper tools it might be easier. If they used the proper materials It would be much easier. Bending each stave to the appropriate curve of the barrel was a time consuming PITA. So now comes the barrel construction- not sure how I’m going to do this... right now the option that seems best is to hot glue the staves to the tank and go from there. Anyway- the pictures.
