Once you frame mount, not only is the main mount available for modification, the strap that attaches behind the seat also has a possiblility or two.
On Rocinante I combined two straps to push the engine back a little farther. (NOTE-the way I made my steel tabs insures that the 357 millimeter gap for belt tension remains constant).
In between the longer bolts I used, I made a "butterfly" like attachment, to push the saddlebags (which used to go behind my handlebars) out a little farther from the wheel, longer on the engine side.
I took one of the old broken straps, cut/bored out, to make the clamp down peice, held down with wingnuts.
ON THE TEST DRIVE I WAS AMAZED AT HOW IT QUIETED THE RIDE, but did not react correctly to a strange smell. When I got back a mile later I had melted a hole in the bag where it had moved in front of the exhaust !! Corrected that bulging with a zip-tie setup, no biggie, thats the side that will hold poncho, tarp, galoshes...therefore be rarely be unzipped because we don't get rain in Alabama anymore.
Pic 5 shows a change in my old "zip tie for insurance" method, I drilled another hole, closer in, used 2 zip ties, and the slot that they made could be used to hold some other small peice of biking/camping equipment...like a small lantern or flashlight.
That clear space, above the brakes, with a little more "platform making" using heavy zip ties, might be the place to put the better grade air mattress that I've always wanted to take along on trips.
