I've been satisfied with my mountain bike's GEBE "mount only kit" with a generic 43cc engine, but I'm considering upgrading to the generic "49cc" (it's actually 52cc) engine and using the old 43cc to convert my wife's bike to a friction drive setup. Apparently, most of the engine accessories are interchangeable, but the bore of the 43cc is only 40mm vs. the 44mm bore of the 52cc engine.

Does anyone have any experience with both versions of this engine? I'm assuming that the power is similar, with more torque available from the larger engine. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I've messed around with the generic clones of the Mitsubishi TLE engines in some pocket bikes and go-peds. They are of decent quality, not like a genuine Mitsu - but on par with a typical big box weed trimmer. However, I don't have specific experience comparing the 43cc to the 52cc models. All mine are the 43cc.
