Gold E-Krate first project build.

UPDATE: Received gold pinch barrel set for the krate front brake. In addition, Derailleur, Rear motor hub kit by end of week or maybe next week arrives. Front 20" wheel now has a Tannus solid tire installed. Was a bit of a challenge but never a flat on those. They are pretty hard and rated at around 80PSI. Got cables and sheathes to make custom cables. Widened the rear to accept the 135 MM hub.

First order of business since the new hub motor will have a tire already installed, mount it and check crank clearance. There will be a difference of 6 inches between the front and rear wheels, however, remember the crank will be lifted about 3.5 inches higher in estimate from where it sits. Received rear solid Tannus tire for the 26" wheel. Also a gold chain. Have custom created the new "Gold Krate" logo and will print it on laser decal paper will say "Schwinn Stingray ""Gold (Gold treasure chest in center clip art) Krate"... Will also look at the rear brake being a disc and haven't decided which mount and caliper will work for the Beach Cruiser frame yet. Any ideas welcomed. The rear disc is a 6 bolt pattern will want to get a disc as well.

Talked to Boxcars guy, very nice person, the shifter can be adjusted between a 3 speed to an 8 speed. That is a November pick along with the chain guard, rear and new front gold fenders. In December I'll be adding a triangle compact battery in a battery bag in the frame center. If all is good to go, this should be working mid to late December.

This "Gold Krate" was a learning experience. I plan to try and build 4 more krates. A "Silver Krate" mainly chrome with silver hand grips, seat and chain guard. I'll be gauging the Gold Krate for control and performance. My future Krates might be bumped down to 500 watt systems, maybe even 350 watt, depends on how well the 1KW motor is on the bike and also the control of the lighter front end. That said, I am also considering a build of an Apple Krate, Orange Krate and Lemon Peeler bikes plus a chrome E-Trike all on solid tires too. Will update as it goes along and oh, the Gold Krate has a retro bullet light that works already installed.

EBike kit arrived today as well as other parts. A lot of issues with the Voliamart Rear hub. For example, the wheel doesn't have a sticker showing which direction it rotates. Manual is kind of sketchy as well. Ordered a gold disc for the rear brake on it. Might have to widen the frame back a bit more. Should have more on this by next week.

Chain on the right side should be enough.

Wrong 26" solid tire. Should have been a 1.75 instead of 1 3/8 so waiting on return label from Tannus see if the 1.75 will fit. The pitfalls and learning experience of building a Krate from scratch, however, this means any future Krates I build, I'll know exactly what I'll need and how to put them all together. Knowledge is priceless 👌

The adventure continues. Had to buy a Torx tool to undo the 6 screws for the disc brake to be mounted. But that isn't the hardest problems. The rubber grommet is so thick and their screws so small, won't close it on the handlebars to secure the computer display and here's the kicker, photo enclosed. There is a thin line on the rim. It's aluminum and I checked my other aluminum rims and none have this on it. Am I looking at a shipped out-of-the-box defective rim? Photos attached, you tell me.

Nope that's not a defect That's where the rim was electronically fused together
Thanks, just got same answer. Well, will proceed. Appears Tannus and other solid tires won't seat on this. Will probably go pneumatic and thick tube. Going to search for a fat wide rear slick for a 26" inch tire, like what Pedalchopper uses, just not sure which brand or where to get one. So two out of three on Tannus returns, only the 20 inch front one worked. Having troubles with the mount for the computer display. Left screw is tightened, right one just turns and turns and turns.

On order and what's done so far:

What's done so far. Rear hub got a gold disc brake, installed. Headlight working with batteries, retro bullet type in gold installed. Front solid tire installed. Had to spread back drops ins again as they narrowed slightly. Received two rear torque bars to install, will be fun as they might be fighting for the rear caliper mounting bracket space.

Considering cutting under the upper main support tube at its bottom, 2 small holes for wiring to keep things clean.

Rear tire, solid not available. Am going with a fat slick (stingray style) loaded with a thick tube and the green stuff!

What's on order: Thumb throttle, handle grips in black and gold.

Next month will pickup a rear High-bred caliper half mechanical so it works on standard cable, however the caliper itself is hydraulic. The stick shift for a 7 speed. Rear gold fender, controller box. Chain guard and transfer paper for a laser printer to custom print the Gold Krate chain guard logo. By next month most of the bike will be together. Considering a seat post mounted small rack for the controller box, depends on how much room is behind the main seat tube. In December will get a bagged triangle battery a compact one 48v 20AH for in frame mounting. If all goes well, mid to late December the Gold Krate project should wrap up.

If the bike is riding, this will wrap up the project letting me know exactly how to build my other Krate projects later next year. I'll know exactly what parts to get and it will be cheaper too. Apple and Orange Krates and a Lemon Peeler. I am considering a 500 watt rear hub motor on those and haven't yet decided if I am going to build them on a 24" inch frame. One thing that would allow for is a better balance in the rear and front tire sizes, respectively 24" and 20".

DON'T...I had two FACTORY DRILLED tiny holes on the frame for the optional water bottle on my old steel Huffy frame from years and years ago, just the normal vibrations and harmonics through the frame from the garden variety Seeutec 66cc motor started cracks at both those holes and they went right around the tubing and snapped the frame on me...I salvaged the motor but the bike was junk after that.

What I am riding right now looks clean even with the wiring just zip tied in place.
