Gold E-Krate first project build.

There's not many original survivors, Boys striped em down and made BMX bikes because in the 60s you couldn't buy a BMX bike
BMX bikes became available in the early 70s and most couldn't afford one, so they stripped down their Schwinn Stingray and made a BMX bike, I know I did, soon after I made a BMX bike with a Mongoose frame & tuff wheels

Cruising cool wasn't cool anymore it was about how high/far you could jump and fly thru the trails also BMX racing
How many makeshift jumps did you see in the streets? I built a few myself out of a concrete block and plywood.

Ironic how much those old Krates and especially the more rare Fastbacks are fetching these days ;)

Okay new update. Still debating going with a front 20 inch wheel with a Sturmey Archer Brake on it, but for now, this is what the 24" wheel and standard caliper appear like. A bit of work but enjoy. The trade off is the 24" wheel gives better control at speeds not much better but better none the less. The cons are it looks less cool. But remember that not all krates including more modern reissues came with the Sturmey Archer brakes. I tried guys, but couldn't find an exact matching gold chrome spray paint for the front small fender. Best I can do. So here is the (for now - maybe perm) front setup on the gold krate. Next month I should have the 26" hub motor on. The one I am looking at comes with a 5 speed cluster so it would work well with a Schwinn stick shift sticker for the shifter base that goes "Lo 1 2 3 4 5 Hi" I like the late 60's style flat with three slots this one will have a metal ball atop it. I might spray the shifter and ball in gold.

Quick not the brake caliper has no cable yet, but when installed between the caliper and handle, will squeeze the brakes closer and they won't rest so much on the Springer forks. I still am considering a wheel 4 inches smaller with the archer brake, let me know if this seems to be appealing too. Weigh in, thanks. Remember the back wheel is even bigger and unlike the 1.75 thin tire up front, the back tire will be also a wider 26" 2.125 tire so it will look different, but that is weeks away before I make that decision.

It' so pretty you won't even want to ride it and make it dirty...lol.
It will mostly be out only for a few special events. There is a high probability it can be easily stolen. I also am teetering on building a Lemon Krate replica on a 24" inch base. Believe it or not, this is more easily doable or a "Silver Krate" but on that 24" base too. The "Silver Krate" like the Gold Krate would be unique...LOL

Front wheel too big. Next month will have a 20 inch on it with Archer break, gold head lamp and should have the rear hub motor done, funds permitting of course. Thinking this project won't be riding until December, but when it is finished, it should be good to go.

Waiting on the front hub to have it re-spoked into a 20" inch wheel. Than will mount it. Early next month should have the 26" inch rear hub motor-wheel installed, then a reassessment of the current lower pedal crank. Will a 6 1/2inch crank work or install a new 3 1/2inch crank.

Once that is assessed and determined as this is a new project with trials successes and fails. Then add rear derailleur, chain and chain guard with lettering as follows if possible in black letters on the gold chain guard. "Schwinn Stingray ""Gold (possible graphic of a box) Krate"

October will add the custom stick shift, cabling. November add triangle battery in bag in frame, and gold rear fender and newer front gold fender, gold headlight left mirror. End of November on a snappy cold day with blue skies first test ride. Make any suspension adjustments.

Quick note, the 20" inch front wheel is an evaluation at this point. I might stick with a re-spoked sturmey archer 24" inch wheel, the same wheel on the front in the current pics above.
