got to love Ca DMV regarding MBs

maybe you should start a poll ?? moondog ??

The state can call them what they want.

and that's what Calif is doing -- we who live here got no problem with it

I am willing to bet you any amount of money -- up to 200 dollars
that
if you start a poll -- right here on site
asking all riders on site
what do they wish for their machines to be called ??
over 75 % will say -- motorized bicycles ----- probably even higher %
not -- mopeds !!!

bottom line -- most want to be in another class
mostly for legal reasons I think
and a motorized bicycle is NOT much like a moped !!!

see you at the poll

MM

I am not trying to tell you what to call it. I am saying a motorized bicycle is a moped. You can call it anything you want. You can't change the history of the word moped or it's meaning.

I spent about 2 hours getting a tag for my motorized bicycle. I took copies of all the Florida motorized bicycle laws and moped laws and they had to give me a tag. They tried not to but I kept showing them what the laws were and they finally did it.

I was hard for the lady doing it to understand. It seems hard for you to understand too.

We are building and riding custom mopeds.

simple question -- what's this thread called ??

I am saying a motorized bicycle is a moped

I took copies of all the Florida motorized bicycle laws and moped laws

I was hard for the lady doing it to understand. It seems hard for you to understand too.

We are building and riding custom mopeds.

start your own Florida thread and argue with someone over there
or start the poll thread that I suggested -- did you even see it ??????
this thread is pertaining to Calif ------------ ((((( NOT FLORIDA )))))
and regarding this issue -- what to call it -- what ever
bottom line
we got good legal riding out this way and happy for it

now go ride that thing

It doesn't matter where you live. The word moped has changed somewhat to include small motorbikes without pedals but still includes motorbikes with pedals. No matter where you live.

It is our lawmakers that are confused. Read the laws. They are confused.

We need to not be confused so we can help them understand.

Bikers have alot of pull in this country and we are bikers.

Lets get together on this and stop confusing people and help our lawmakers understand what we are doing.

Saying something is a motorized bicycle and not a moped is confusing and goes against logic.

That is my point.

Again, I am not trying to tell you what to call your bike. It's your bike, please call it anything you want. Peace

This is a thread about the CALIFORNIA DMV.

However, if you want something specific as to what the differance is between a moped and a motorized bicycle, I'll give you one:

A "moped" is a two wheel vehicle which was DESIGNED and BUILT to be powered by BOTH its engine and its pedals.

A "motorized bicycle" is a BICYCLE to which a motor has been ADDED.

Just my $ .02....

Mountain Man or anyone else living in SoCal with an MB and has the plates,

I'm curious about something. How many characters/numbers are on the actual plate? Is it the same as the plates on a regular motorcycle? Do cops really notice the difference between plates for a motorized bicycle and a motorcycle plate?

good old pooolice -- easy to notice difference

Do cops really notice the difference between plates for a motorized bicycle and a motorcycle plate?

easy for anyone to notice the difference
the plate for motor cycles has the year and month stickers
on each top corner -- very colorful
made that way so the pooolice can see fast if paid up
motorized bicycle plate is plain
easy to tell it's different
the motorized bicycle plate has been around longer than I thought in Calif
I bought an old Honda moped and it has one already on it
think that the Honda moped's HP rating is actually to high
so as to have the plate legally but hey it came with it
I like that kind of THING
