GX 50 reliability on long trips?

How do you get air flow around the engine when it's inside the basket? Is the exhaust and intake air inside there also? Looks cool but from an engineering point of view "not very sound" I would say.

You can't see it from the pic, but I think the basket is 1/4" mesh screen

Wrench is absolutely correct, it's mesh.
Front of basket has pleeeenty of airflow for intake, and toward the back, near muffler, is also open.
The rest is covered by thin black polypropylene to disguise.

You'll be happy to know everything works perfectly, and the GX runs like a champ.

Just assembled my bike today! Super happy! It's awesome being able to refill in just a few minutes. I think I am having some carb issues though my engine will only run with the choke on. Guess I'll be taking it to a dealer tomorrow, and after that I'm hoping all is good.

Check for air leaks.

That's a 142f? What the heck is that transmission? Motor output looks nothing like my beltdrive. Manual clutch? Or centrifugal?
