Hello from Oregon

That was for motorized scooters.
That's right, a motorized bike in Oregon can be a motorized scooter under the law. Over 35cc it's legally a moped which requires license plate, insurance, etc..

I can't imagine pedaling it around without power from the engine.
I can't either...lol...lol...Thats why if something ever does happen whilst on the road, I just pick up my cell phone and call one of my many friends with a pickup truck...Out here in the high desert of New Mexico, just about everyone has a pick-em-up truck...lol.

Ps...Good thing they all like me out here...lol.

In Oregon: 35 cc, place to put feet, lighting if used after dark, helmet required, not able to exceed 24 mph on level ground, speed limit 15 mph. I can see getting ticketed by a radar cop for going 17 mph!
Well I may have to rethink this over. I heavily prefer motorized, but it looks like OR. heavily favors electric. Except for a small diff in speed limits, I found Mudflap's info correct. Sure, I could try and disguise the engine size, and keep the speed down, but is it worth the risk? I would be riding in a "safety corridor" where all tickets are doubled. I mean 35cc...really!? Even with tall gearing I couldn't climb a speed bump. From what I understand, anything over 50cc is a motorcycle, and even the moped rules $uck. By the time I got a cheap motor kit, upgraded parts, registered, insured, DOT helmet, etc. I could have a reliable electric bike.

Wow, y'all clammed up really quick when I mentioned electric...or maybe it was my stoopid comment on the 35cc, lol. Regardless, I'm def going ebike. I found out OR. is one of just 6 states that allow for a 1000W motor, though the 20mph max is ridiculous with a motor of that size. Maybe I can wire up some sort of secret granny switch, and would prob not be going any faster than that anyway. Should make for a great hill climber, though! I'll stay here and start a thread in the electric section...y'all are very nice, and I could see plenty of snobs poo pooing a cheap build elsewhere, like endless sphere.

I wouldn't worry to much about the clams on here. It seems many of us ride both gas and electric. My electric is getting more use than my old 48cc gas these days, mostly because I don't worry about taking it on bike paths where motorized vehicles are prohibited (even through it is motorized).
