Hello everyone! I've wanted to build a bike for years, but I finally acted and ordered a FD from Staton.
I'm worried now that I'm seeing some of the more recent postings- maybe I'll be able to post a pleasant outcome and pics of my first build if and when I receive the kit...
Wish me luck (I hope I don't need it!)

    Welcome aboard.

I don't think you'll regret it. You're more likely to wish you'd done it sooner.

Not that it's guaranteed to be trouble-free from start to finish. These bikes are a bit temperamental and one has to learn what works and what doesn't.

The good news is that learning what you need to know just isn't all that hard. And there's helpful folks and info to be found here when you do have trouble.

    You'll have fun.

Welcome to the forum. Friction drive should work great in your dry climate.
