HF 2.5HP is a killer engine! New Speed Record!

For a while I was confused(until I read Professors post) at Danny3xd comments about the HF 2.5 engines hating the cold,my Dad uses 2 of the 2.5's and they never had any problems.I use a HF 6.5 and boy does it run and run,not to shabby for 89 bux and some tax.

Anyway I mainly wanted to say it appears Harbor Freight is clearing out the blue clones to make room for the new engines called the Predator line.Whats neat is the Predators have a bit more cc's for each engine size their replacing. So on the 79.5 cc 2.5 hp blue clone it's replacement will be the 99cc Predator engine. On the 197cc 6.5hp blue clone,it's replacement will be the 212cc Predator engine.A little more grunt.Of course should you need an engine soon, now is the time to buy for cheap as the blue clones are marked way down.

Just wondering BikeMan, did your Dad make any changes? I had 3 HFs this winter and not one of em started easy in the cold or ran well. They were on bikes and open to the cold. I did learn I was letting em get to much air, but aside from that, dunno.

Warm weather here now and my daily rider is running like a top. As soon as it got chilly today, tuff to start. Asking here.

Anybody knows if those new Predator engines are heavier than the old line?
There is no info on weight and "shipping weight" is listed as 1lb on HF site, obviously an error.

The Harbor Freight 2.5HP engine is starting to get popular and I wanted to let you folks know this engine has LOTS of hot-rodding potential for power and light weight!!!

Just have to mention, new speed record set by opening exhaust to straight pipe, higher-flowing intake, and removing the stock 3600RPM governor, has proven some awesome HP gains!!!

Top speed on flat ground, now 45.3 MPH at 4800RPM!!! And this engine easily now gets to over 40mph reliably every time!!!

And this is with a push-trailer. I imagine more speed may be possible with a frame or rack mount! It easily keeps up with average cars in city traffic! VERY NICE!

This engine is the new Honda50 killer!!! :devilish:

No more need for huge 196cc 6.5HP engines, when you can have a lighter, more gas efficient engine!

We have yet to do more gas mileage testing. Stock was 140MPG, but it's now better on fuel with the engine mods, so I'll keep you posted on the next gas mileage test!

The real problem with the 79 HF Motor other then the size, which is much bigger than the Huanshung is the weight. Nearly twice the weight. Unless you weigh 160-170, Expect major modification to the bikes, custom wheels to take the weight, disk brakes, and welded to frame. A lot of bikes are only rated at 240-250 lbs. Slam one of these together with off the shelf bike, carry so much as a 2 litre of soda, Don't expect to make it home. I've been thinking of putting one of these on a cranbrook or Genesis and haven't for this very reason.
