My rear fender, (plastic aftermarket), that I have on my bike took a direct hit from my chain when it snapped the other day a quarter mile from my house after 5 years of almost everyday steady use, and it was the usual crappy "Chinesium" chains that come with the kit.

The fender is still on the bike rock solid after that direct hit.

My new chain which will arrive Thursday is NOT "Chinesium" but USA all the way...lol.,,I will also be cutting it for a custom fit as well.
Still angry about the chain? 😆

Just get a dual pull brake lever...I have been using them for quite a few years, they are great since both brake cables are on that one right side brake lever leaving you free and clear for your clutch lever on the left.

I can't do that on mine as it has a hydraulic front brake and a cable rim on the rear. I have the clutch and rear brake on the left side, a bit odd at first but am used to it now.

Clutch on top brake under, so going for the brake collects the clutch as well.

Clutch on top brake under, so going for the brake collects the clutch as well.
I'm running X-Tech cable pull actuated hydraulic calipers myself so the dual pull was the best of all worlds with my setup...Hydraulic disk braking with cable pull actuation, cheap and easy to install and maintain.

Well I've run into an entirely new problem in all my time of wrenching bicycles!

Once I got my chain on, my front sprocket doesn't have a side to side bend, but all three cogs on the front are completely out of whack and out of round! As you crank it, the teeth vary from touching my finger (if I hold in place against the frame adjacent to the outer cog), to a FULL QUARTER INCH away, and then back to touching my finger. I can't see any obvious damage, it's just all out of whack and needs replaced. Real bummer cuz I have no crank tools and those are difficult to remove without proper tools. Guess now I need to order some and a front crankset.
In case no-one has mentioned it yet that sounds pretty much like a standard sort of elliptical chainring that has gone in & out of style on mid & upper end bikes for decades. Some have been genuinely bizarre in shape.

I have done the same. Works pretty well.

I had them on an old Rocky Mountain MTB from years ago. I was going to say something earlier but someone had beat me to it. They worked well. just a slight oval to them.
