Engine Trouble High idle, no solution found in forums

Symtoms:

1) Carb leaking fuel at air intake, when petcock open

2) Extremely high idle; engine barely revs up when throttle engaged (but does rev up, not bog down)

3) Carb seems to prefer half-choke. No air leaks, or jet blockages, found.

Hey, all. I haven't ridden this moped in about 4 months, due to leaky tank. Finally got the new tank ordered last week, and I figured I'd replace the throttle while I was at it (was using a brake lever and cable clamp instead, as old throttle handle was broken in a freak incident involving a 12yr old nephew and a baseball bat). Now the engine revs really high at idle, the carb wants to be half choked, and she pees fuel when the petcock is left open (discovered this at the advice of another thread I found the day before yesterday, but that solution went no where). Any ideas, gentlemen?

first thing is to be sure the slide in the carb will go all the way to hit bottom when idle screw is out

after that, I'd say you're leaking somewhere - maybe a steel intake that needs smoothing out
