Homemade jackshaft kit

Okay so I want a shift kit but I won't buy one I'm gonna make one anyone have any thoughts or tips? Here's my idea:

Front hub containing axle with single fixed gear bolted to either side for jackshaft.

Front sprocket will be made from two single freewheeling sprockets joined by pedal bearing cap from a three piece crankshaft.

That's the theory at least

Well after 11 years of service I've decided to retire the auto shift LandRider. I did mods to the derailleur and it was working really good. However the hanger broke on the frame. It's a steel frame so I could repair it with a little welding. Still LandRider went out of business 5 years ago. So...
