Honda gx35 gearing

A few factors need to be considered.

1) What is the total weight being moved (rider/bike)?

2) What % grade hills do you have to contend with?

At 7000 rpm the Honda 35 produces 1.2 horse power. At 4500 rpm it produces 1.2 ft/lbs of torque. So this isn't a very powerful engine. My Robin Subaru 35 has 1.6 hp at 7000 rpm and 1.6 ft/lbs of torque at 5000 rpm. My engine is connected to a Staton Inc 18.75:1 gear box. I also use a triple chainring shift kit and it runs to a custom built 7 speed 34-13 freewheel. This gives me a reduction reduction range of 66.79:1 to 16.25:1.

With my set up I then use a tachometer to shift by. If I can't reach between 6000-7000 rpm at full throttle I down shift. If I'm going way over 7000 rpm at full throttle I up shift
