And one more thing to add. The higher altitude you drive at, the less octane the engine needs to keep it from pinging. Say you have a car that requires premium 91 octane fuel at sea level to keep it from pinging. Drive the car up to 7000' and you'll probably find you can run it on regular with no pinging.
BTW: The little Chinese engines should run on anything that resembles gasoline regardless of octane.
