I installed a 31 cc Honda 4 stroke with the Staton mount and tire wear was excessive.
The roller was knurled and it cut into the rubber like a file.
Using an angle grinder, I cut about 6 grooves lengthwise into the roller.
(It looks like a shallow groove spline shaft.)
Tire wear went down to an acceptable level.
