Can anyone tell me how to properly clean one of those tubular air filters that are on vintage Whizzer J motors?

Mine is too plugged to allow the engine to run properly.

Thanks..... Wayne

I just got a new one from Memory Lane Classics. You just need to specify weather you have the Carter or the Tilotson carb.
They were $20.00 when I got mine.

Wow I just checked and they are $35.00 now.

Hi Maxglide,

Spray parts cleaner or carburetor cleaner into filter, and blow out with air hose.

The newer filters aren't as porous and cause the carburetor to run a little rich.

Have fun,

Thanks again

Thanks Quenton,

It's definitely the air filter that was preventing it from starting. Without it, the engine starts immediately and runs nicely. I just have to tweak the carb adjustments but otherwise it is great. It will be interesting to see how it runs as I get more time on the motor.

I look forward to riding it at Iron Ranch nest weekend in Portland.

I got mine from Mempry Lane too & it just makes my bike run too rich.
