Most riders are annoyed by the pedal throttle, and prefer only to
use the handle bar throttle. The pedal throttle can be disabled by simply
opening up the controller box, following the wire from the pedal
crank to inside the controller box and disconnecting it. It has no
effect on the handle bar throttle, and then the ebike can be
throttled safely like a motorbike.

Not me, But I'm not most riders
I love the pedal cadence. It's a great benefit when I'm riding the rough trails and terrain with my Fat Tire E Bike
When ya gotta be sure power is only delivered as you pedal when you pedal, ya can't get the same results with just the twist throttle
Of course I gotta twist throttle too, and I'll admit I use that 3/4 of the time

There's other way's to disconnect the pedal cadence without messing with the controller box wires.
Put a piece of tape over the P/U at the cadence

Isn't there a way to disable it in the controller menu? If using a thumb throttle it wouldn't make sense to have the cadence sensor working simultaneously. When I was using throttle only, I'd pedal just for the exercise even though it didn't help to propel the bike.

Good question,

I just realized the Rad Rover 5 display can do that. I've never used that feature so I forgot

Yes, on some ebikes it's possible to disable the pedal controller in the
program menu, but not on most. The problem with using a pedal
throttle is if you accidently start to pedal from a standstill and the
bike is set on high power, it can lurch forward out in the street
very quickly and get out of control. With the handle bar throttle,
you can start to move forward with the pedals safely and then apply
power smoothly. I believe pedal power is an ebike legal requirement
in Europe. When I built my ebike from a kit, I just never connected the
pedal throttle. For me, riding an ebike with a handle bar throttle is
a joy. And one can still pedal the ebike like a regular bicycle.
