Hello all, long time lurker and first time poster. This site has been enormously helpful in understanding everything to do with these builds!

Anyway, I have plans for a project using this 142f so I've been trying to get it to run reliably, but I'm having a strange issue that I can't seem to find much good info about online.

The engine starts up great on the first or second pull with choke. It then runs very well at idle and has good throttle response with no bogging. This lasts for about 10 minutes at which point it starts bogging when getting on the throttle, and after a few more minutes the idle starts surging a little bit. Shortly after this the engine stops running and cannot be started again normally. I can get it to start with starting fluid while it's hot, but it dies after a few seconds like it's not getting fuel.

So far I've ensured the valves are adjusted to spec, the oil is correct, spark and fuel are present, and I've tried adjusting the air/fuel mix to no avail. I have disassembled and cleaned the carburetor, but it was already spotless when I opened it. I'm just not sure what could be changing with temperature that it runs so well when cold but not at all once it's at operating temperature.

Any troubleshooting tips? Or any 4 stroke gurus recognize this issue? Thanks!

Kinda sounds like something might be warping when it warms up causing an air leak? Is the carb on tight?

I once tried cork on one of my 2 stroke builds about 10 yrs ago and it did not work out well at all, I changed those suckers right out and it ran properly after I replaced those gaskets with what was intended to be there.

I'll have to try that. I will probably use the manila folder method since I doubt I could find the right ones online.
