Here's one for you all, first of all I know that the term hydro lock refers to water but in this case the fluid in question is raw fuel/gas.
Now the story goes buddy went into a store came out and gas was pissing out the exhaust then it was suggested that it's hydro locked ? I would like someone to explain or show proof of a hydro locked 2 stroke from these conditions?
I stated that a carb with the float valve stuck open the fuel comes out the over flow not up the emulsion tube or needle jet body, yes or no?
Then I was told the over flow was blocked for other reasons and the case filled with gas and was pissing out the exhaust, so let me get this straight your gravity feed fuel supply has pumped through the carb and intake into the case and filled it to the point it's now over flowing out the exhaust port! Hhmm does this make sense ? And this all happened in a few minutes, have you ever drained your tank through the pet cock?
Now wait here's the real kicker this started with two guy's commenting then Don Butler chimed in saying this happens all the time ?

I've forgotten to turn off the fuel and drove 100 miles with a bike in the back of a truck and had the fuel come out the intake I don't think it would climb out of the exaust... mabe if it was layed down... I don't think it's common... 4 stroke would do it... But it wouldn't be something that happened all the time... Vapor lock ?? Stranger things have happened

This was his first reply, and this guy is a supposed engine builder ?
You are correct about the engine locking up with raw fuel mix. The term "hydro lock" is not a correct term for this condition but they will flood and lock up. Have been known to do that even while running poorly but running none the less. Most always the carbs fault dumping more than the engine can burn.

So please can anyone make sense of this ? How does a carb dump in more than the engine can burn, what does this mean LOL, there is just so much wrong here and misunderstanding of how these work.

4 strokes can hydro lock form sucking in water or a cooling leak filling a cylinder but 2 strokes its basically impossible, I've ridden through rivers and gone too deep with dirt bikes (2 strokes) and we used to just push the bike around in third gear to pump the water out, dry the plug and fire it up take it home and change the case oil, I don't even remember how many outboards I've dunked racing hydro's they all ran fine again. A 2t having open ports before the top of the stroke (compression area) allows most of any actual fluid to be pumped out before it would be compressed and therefore it's next to impossible to hydro lock a 2t with water or fuel/gas in normal conditions and this is why I asked them to explain how this occurs, but they can't they just say it happens and I'm wrong!

I find it quite amusing and a little disturbing when this is a supposed engine builder saying this!
Mossy I have a FB page with 2,700 people on it called Motorized bicycle customs and cruisers, check it out!

I'm burnt out... This RDM clutch got me. just the frustration of it... I don't want anything they sell or have sold me... Because how ignorant they are and the people who have to get into your business... I'm just going to stick to stock motors and off the shelf stuff I can get or already have. I have enough parts to pickup with it mabe Next year or the year after... but I doubt it... I like pedaling and will stick to that... If I build anything it will be kx 250 what I know and can get parts for...
