Two adjustments to be aware of. Idle speed and idle mixture. Idle speed is just like it sounds, opens and closes the slide just a tiny bit to adjust the Idle rpm. Start with that.
Idle mixture - controls the air fuel ratio for Idle. On pwk and pe style carbs the screw controls how much air is let into the Idle circuit. Turning the screw in = less air = richer Idle mixture. Out = more air = leaner.
The size of the slow jet/pilot jet affects the fuel side of the Idle mixture. Too big or too small of a jet and you can struggle to get the mixture right with running too far out of adjustment. A good rule of thumb is if it takes less than 1 turn out from seated or more than 3 turns out from seated in order to get the idle mixture dialed in properly you need to go up a jet size for the former, and down for the latter.
