adjust your spark gap to .070 standard or 1.2mm and see if it still has spark outside the cylinder. if so, then adjust back to .020 or .030 or whatever you want and you can fully rule out electrical problem and know it's almost certainly carb or compression. heck, slop a little splash of premix down the plug hole then try it and if it won't start after a few good tries you know it's compression or else flooded

damn klingons done gone stole the spock! recommend engaging uss enterprise in retaliation, napalm the damn bugs and critter infestations will be a thing of the past...

though the upside down rings could be the issue, in which case, remove! may be a lonely single bug lurking around that is adverse to rings of any kind, dont wanna get hitched too soon, ya know.

    aye aye, cap'n birdseye!

this is a highly amusing thread, btw :)

since when does paint stripper contain ether? dichloromethane, boys. one step away from chloroform... *passes out*

you mention that this is a high performance 4.5hp engine, so you wouldn't want to replace it with a standard engine. good news: I also have an engine advertised as 4.5hp, and I'm pretty sure it's the same engine with a better carb, a reed valve, an expansion chamber exhaust, a Fred head, and a spring tensioner. Those higher performance add ons together give you what you need so you can modify & tune the exhaust and intake, and drill port in piston's intake side, and then you probably can achieve 4.5hp or better. so if you get a new engine and get it running, you can start moving parts over and make it high performer too

i know, the problem was that I was huffing ether with regular strippers ;):p

j/k, i was using engine starter fluid (mostly ether) to try and strip paint, because it was $3 a can and it was working...

The only thing I can make of this is too much ether, which does put it into context for me...
I cannot solve those sort of problems.

Just yesterday I fully reassembled my engine , tried fire it it was just giving a pop but not firing turned out the woodruff key on the magneto wasn't in but was intermittently sparking so when I was checking for spark it was visible , to get the key in without getting sucked out by the magnet I had to remove the pickups and hold the key in place with a screw driver while putting the magnet on.

Lol no the idea of an ether has been around for over a century. Nicola Tesla talked about ether: "Only the existence of a field of force can account for the motions of the bodies as observed, and its assumption dispenses with space curvature. All literature on this subject is futile and destined to oblivion. So are all attempts to explain the workings of the universe without recognizing the existence of the ether and the indispensable function it plays in the phenomena. My second discovery was of a physical truth of the greatest importance. As I have searched the entire scientific records in more than a half dozen languages for a long time without finding the least anticipation, I consider myself the original discoverer of this truth, which can be expressed by the statement: There is no energy in matter other than that received from the environment." Nice try though lol.

  18. Compression you mean like bad rings? I relace 1 that broke it expands more than the other factory been itching my head if I should replace both, will this cause a no fire?

A simple compression check would be to remove the sparkplug and spin the motor a couple times with your finger in the hole. You should feel the pressure.
