black build up coming from the gasket between cylinder and muffler. do I need a new gasket or change my gas-oil mix? I use 32-1.

This stuff seems to be liquid when its heated, as it dripped down the muffler pipe. This only happened on a single hour trip 2 days ago, before that there was none, and since then there is no new build up.

happened around the same time I refilled the tank. but like I said it's been fine since

Try a new gasket. 32/1 is not overly rich on oil. What kind of oil are you using?

no name 2-cycle oil for aircooled motors....from Do-it-Best hardware.

it was supposed to be a temporary half gallon to get me by until I bought a 2 gallon jug and quality oil.

Yes, that "temporary" half gallon is lasting you awhile I bet!
As long as it's for air cooled engines and not outboards, mix @ 36/1 or 40/1 and you'll be fine.

A new gasket can't hurt.
