So... Got the new bottom end on my phantom. And damn it I had it running for 2 days and now it won't start. I assumed the carb due to the fact when it started to not run it would spit and sputter so I kept putting gas in the carb by straw till I got her to go, so I could get home.. after that she just didn't run, or start anyway and run LOL. Now I have changed the carb it is a different carb but it's not the NT but it should be okay. I also have a different CDI and I even changed the Magneto. Seems to have fuel going through it cuz the bowlfloat is clear as well as the lines so I can see the gas clearly running through it. I switched up the clutch a little bit tweaked that. Not sure what else to even do to be honest I'm almost giving up. I think that unless it's just me thinking I may have not put the Magneto on right just maybe I didn't specify where I put the little magnet at when I put it on but it was kind of up and down so if you guys can give me any help with anything I just would appreciate it cuz this is driving me crazy. Oh and one more thing this morning when I tried starting it it gave a long pur after the clutch release then when it finally slowed to a stop it just popped like it backfired does that mean I got Spark.? And is that a sign of something?

Sound like you started with a fuel delivery problem and have changed everything so who knows what the problem is now.
You have to trouble shoot step by step, if you do a bunch of things at once, you don't know what you have done to either cause the problem or fix it. Usually the former.

Well if you're going to change so many things around I'd recommend a new plug too. Like robe said, it's best to change one thing at a time (and usually change things back again before moving on to the next change) when troubleshooting as this allows you to know what actually is the source of your problem when you find the right fix. Sounds like you might un-knowingly have put in a bad mag, or carb, or cdi etc, just no way to tell. If I did what you did I'd revert ALL the changes and then restart with the carb service/replacement and go on from there.
Best of luck.

Well dang guys way to assume.. In fact I did change one thing at a time. I didn't do all that at one time. I started with changing the spark plug, then I cleaned the carb I originally had. When that did not work I gave it a few days of checking over things and making sure every bolt was fastened and there were no air leaks. Thought maybe a new carb so that's what I did. That didn't work either I still got the same result so I moved onto the cdi. I changed it to a used one that I had from an engine that was retired and when that didn't work I tried a few others I had around when that didn't work I changed the magneto to one I had bought not to long ago for my other motor with that said... Instead of me trying to explain myself how i systematically went abouttryimg to get this motor to run some real help would be nice instead of some criticizing comment trying to make someone feel as through they are dumb as a box of rocks

The only thing that was not new were the cdi cables I tried using everything else was new. So my now guess has been to get a brand new cdi but I thought before I did that I seek help not that it cost a lot was just reaching out for some help is all

You need to diagnose each problem and focus on that. Are you getting good blue spark to the plug? If yes then a new CDI will not help you. Fix this issue with the verify/spark, then move on to the next problem.

Not being an as***le but the great walls of text are hard to parse.
Yes they are and I get that and I don't mean to come back so to cause friction I am just beyond frustrated and need real help and this is where I go to find it cause most people here try their best with all the knowledge combined to help figure it out and I appreciate it. Kinda threw me off when I was told all that and was not really given a helping worded statement but I can also see why one would feel the need to let someone know not to do too much and to pay attention to what one is actually doing. I was upset when I first read it but when I thought about it it also made sense. Usually we get maddest when we are told the truth. So I in turn apologize for any misunderstanding from my part but we do have a case to solve and that's getting my damn motor to run so let's see if we get some helpful mediation and wisdom at play here.

I wasn't trying to be condescending or belittling. Sorry if I came across like that.

So, first things first, it won't start. Here is what you do.

Remove the spark plug. Is it wet or dry? Dry, no fuel. Problem with carb or fuel delivery. Sort that out.
Wet, there is fuel. As long as it's not pouring out everywhere, things are good. On to the next thing.

Check for spark. Put the boot on the plug, ground the plug to the motor by leaving it loose in the plug hole so you can see the end. Turn the motor over. No spark? Check the wires, have they come loose or bad connections. Check again. No spark.
Remove the cover that houses the magneto. Check that the arms that are on either side of the magnet are evenly spaced. Also look for any loose or burnt wires.

This is the idea, systematically go through each step.
There are electrical resistance tests to check the other components but I won't go into it as it would take several more paragraphs but you get the idea of what people were trying to lay down.
