My 66 cc motor had very poor power output. After making sure everything else was right. I manipulated the ignition timing and that really woke the engine up. Now I am pretty happy with it.

The 50mm bore engines are becoming more available so it won't be long till tuning ideas are posted, with a one piece cylinder it's harder to get better compression, making a thinner base gasket is all I can think of. I've got better power by trimming the piston skirt on the intake side, with the intake removed look at the piston at TDC, if you can see part of the piston it is restricting fuel flow. I mark the piston with a sharpie then remove the piston and die grind the area of the piston. I've got two 48cc engines and one 66cc that run much better after.

I think of these motors more as "evolution" from the 66cc motors. Most (general) complaints about the old 2-strokes were noisy, leaky head gaskets, bad balance at high rpm, etc.) From what I've heard, the "100s" have addressed a good deal of those problems. No more head gasket, larger displacement and tuned to produce better low rpm power so that a person isn't getting into the buzzy higher rpm. Give the hot-rodders some time with these engines, and I'm sure they'll find the hidden horses.
