Just thought this was good to post outside of CC?
And as an Austrailian you are an expert on what Americans believe?

    My apologies Stan4d

I should have included the word "some" Americans

I'm going to edit the above post so it correctly reflects what i was intending to say.

I inteneded for there to be no religious sentiment in the post; the title just reflects the authors position; a completely messed up position which makes it so damm humorous.

Again Stan4d, i give my apologies.
Having said that, "some" Americans may not see the humorous side of these videos, although i'd be dumbfounded how this could be possible.

that was obviously a joke... are you too dumb to see its some guy (probably from berkeley) talking like billy bob thornton on sling blade???

the giveaway was the hemi remark, almost sounded like "mmm mmm i reckon i like them french fried potaters mmmm mmmm".....

come on fabian... if you were serious about your comment about all americans.... you my friend are guilty of a serious faux pas.

and stan was right... this definitely should have been in the cc. you should expect a warning.

you noticed you didn't see his face right??? if i saw some guy that looked like kerf it might be a little more credible.

try not to be so gullible in the future fabian.

ohh... speaking of gullible... did you hear the bp ceo and his thoughts on light sweet crude vs heavy crude and its ecological impact on the gulf????

Someone, help me out here: i'm getting beat up real bad by Stan4d and vtec.

The videos are seriously funny, and it's quite probable that the guy narrating the video is a stooge, but there's also the slight possibility he may be serious.
That's what gives these videos their humor, as some of those Texan's may very well hold steadfast belief of such ideas.

I've apologised to Stan4d for not being more careful about my wording and have corrected my post to include the word "some" Americans.

Now the (Fabian) beatings can begin, and Simple Simon should jump on this post with enthusiasm.

But hey, enjoy the videos for what they are; plain good humor!

not funny... should we bring out some old crocodile Dundee flicks??? I love Paul Hogan...

You believing all Americans are like the guy in the video, is quite literally the same as me thinking everybody in Australia is like mick dundee.

vtec, grow a sense of humor.

The videos are obvious parodies, intended to be what they are - funny.

Fabian has stated twice he erred in not including the word "some" in his characterization, has edited the OP, and you continue to beat a dead horse. The meat should long since have been tender enouigh to grill, much like your sensibilities.

they would have been funny had you been able to see the person holding the pencil... i am going to throw out a term, do what you want to with it.

    Main Entry: pro·pa·gan·da
    Pronunciation: \ˌprä-pə-ˈgan-də, ˌprō-\
    Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin, from Congregatio de propaganda fide Congregation for propagating the faith, organization established by Pope Gregory XV " 1623
    Date: 1718

1 capitalized : a congregation of the Roman curia having jurisdiction over missionary territories and related institutions
2 : the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3 : ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect

    - pro·pa·gan·dist \-dist\ noun or adjective

    - pro·pa·gan·dis·tic \-ˌgan-ˈdis-tik\ adjective

    - pro·pa·gan·dis·ti·cal·ly \-ti-k(ə-)lē\ adverb

it would have been funny if people like fabian didnt buy it.... hook, line, and sinker. to be frank.... its damaging.

    Let's try a different term:

    par·o·dy   [par-uh-dee] Show IPA noun,plural-dies, verb,-died, -dy·ing.
    1. a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing: his hilarious parody of Hamlet's soliloquy.
    2. the genre of literary composition represented by such imitations.
    3. a burlesque imitation of a musical composition.
    4. any humorous, satirical, or burlesque imitation, as of a person, event, etc.
    5. the use in the 16th century of borrowed material in a musical setting of the Mass (parody Mass).
    6. a poor or feeble imitation or semblance; travesty: His acting is a parody of his past greatness.
    –verb (used with object)
    7. to imitate (a composition, author, etc.) for purposes of ridicule or satire.
    8. to imitate poorly or feebly; travesty.

You are close... and anybody that isnt versed in propaganda probably wouldn't be able to see the difference. The difference between satire/parody and propaganda is that when dealing with propaganda the authorship is usually unknown.

It would be parody if it wasn't being passed off as real. The problem I see is that the person who created these videos intentionally leaves the audience believing that the person who moved the pencil actually endorses those thoughts when exactly the opposite is probably true. Its purpose is to discredit the group of people they are mimicking... its very similar to what SNL did to Sarah Palin. The only difference is that we knew who wrote the SNL skits and who was acting as sarah palin. You find out who put this group of videos out and we will call it parody.... until then its blatant propaganda and any historian worth their salt would agree with me.

nice try simon... but your attempt to justify this garbage fails miserably.

here is the proof of what I said... I guarantee this is the exact reaction the author of that video intended.

    Prove me wrong....
  15. SimpleSimon

    SimpleSimon Active Member

    Guess what, vtec?

I was not trying to "justify" anything. I was, like you, identifying the sense of the videos. Feel free to call it propaganda and claim any false and insupportable distinction in favor of that claim that you wish. You and your "historians" can make any claim regarding them you might desire to, it will not change the nature of the performance - which was parody.

In any case, parody is often a tool of propagandists, and always has been. Ever read "Gulliver's Travels"? Are you aware they were originally published as intentional parody [ii]and [/i] as propaganda, and published anonymously?

I am very, very familiar with both parody and propaganda, and neither requires attribution nor anonymity. Try again.

As for "prove me wrong", you really ought to cease demanding logical impossibilities. They do not improve perceptions of you.

    vtec, vtec, vtec,

You're beating up on me real bad.
I apologise to you as well as Stan4d, for not making myself more clear. I am certainly not labeling you as a person who has such short sighted views as the narrator in the videos.

Please read my post again - i've edited it to reflect what i intended to say.

    And yes,

Crocodile Dundee certainly des reflect a very small portion of the old timers in the region of Central Australia and the western cattle growing regions - some of those guys are too funny with their closed views.

See, now look what you've done vtec, you've had this thread dragged kicking and screaming into the combustion chamber; a place where it doesn't belong.

Most people don't have access to the C.C.

I'm going to have to post the links all over again - grrrrrr
