Winter project motorized Kent Alameda folding trike.

The Kent Alameda is an aluminum frame 26" single speed folding trike that sells for $200 at Walmart. I chose this trike mainly because of the rear axle design that would allow a 44 tooth or larger rear sprocket to be mounted on the axle. Also it doesnt have the weird double chain system and bolt on rear assembly used on the Schwinn Meridian and most other brands. Unlike the 7 speed version, the single speed version has room on the axle for an addition sprocket mount and a long keyway to accommodate a freewheel adapter. The bike is very light weight and appears to be of decent quality with alloy rims, hubs, brakes, etc., and nice welds.

I'll be using a Staton 18.75/1 gearbox with a Chinese clone of a Honda GX35 engine. Here in Oregon 35cc is the maximum engine size to be legal with no plates, insurance, etc.. I already had the engine left over from another project.

Here is a pic of the trike without the rear fenders mounted, and a pic of the axle with the bike upside down. The 22 tooth freewheel and adaptor are installed. Gearbox should arrive today.

Are you wanting a trike with top speed around 15 mph? That's about the fastest it can go for the following reasons: safety due to trike design and engine power.
Yes 15 mph is about what I expect and is also the maximum speed allowed in Oregon. Riding fast on a tricycle is nuts, I have motorcycles for that.

Narrow track delta trike with high center of gravity and one wheel drive (and braking) is not a good design for going fast. Main use will be going to the mailbox when my rural road is covered with snow and ice like it is right now. Can't walk that far because I have MS and hate to warm up the car for such a short drive.

I've got a 4x4 four-wheeler that I take everywhere lol. Low gear and 4x4 on that thing will get me anywhere I want to be

I came across this a while back and thought it was kind of neat...Maybe something that might just be great for getting down to the mailbox over snow and ice.

Here are some videos of these things in action...You will have to click the "Videos" on the left side of the screen.

Sorry about hearing you have MS, I had an aunt that had it too.
