Lack of power after new exhaust and carb

If i owned your bike right now i would do the following.

1.) Get a stock kit pipe for it untill i could figure out a custom pipe that would look good on the bike and actually improve performance..

Even a stock pipe with a long extension would work to give you added torque...the extension should be at the straightest point of the pipe before the pipe enters the muffler...One cut and 2 welds.

2.) buy a jet kit for the stock nt carb and a couple of fresh plugs then tune till my plug was chocolate brown..not ashy white or black...No 4 stroking..No hesitations and a responsive throttle should be the results.

3.) i would check to be sure the magneto is properly centered around the magnet and that it has good fresh shiny grounds were needed and also that my plug wire was tight on the boot and ignition....It could just be that you have a weak spark or a bad cdi...buy a stock cdi to test that possibility.

If none of the above gets you running right then im out of suggestions..lol...i hope you get it figured out.

I appreciate all your suggestions.
However now that I've drilled out the header port on new exhaust it works great.

Also after putting that stock carb back on I'm running better now than ever.

I just have a few things to work out on the idle and or throttle all together.

Seems I can't idle without giving gas or it will die no matter where I adjust the idle screw to.

On the other extreme throttle keeps acting like it is getting stuck at wot.
I've done a few things trying to fix this issue.

I've made extra sure there are no sharp bends in the throttle cable, I've taken the throttle cap off the top of carb many times trying to make sure it's not binding up in there and all seems fine.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the throttle cable got permanently damaged when installed in the clone.
The clone required me to bend the end of throttle cable up to set the spring on the slide correctly.

I did my best to bend it back straight when I went to install it back into the stock carb.

I'm thinking of ordering a whole new throttle set up cable grips twist and all.

Mine now that came with kit had a plastic tit to insert in a drilled hole to keep from twisting and that broke at first install.

So I've never had one that worked properly. I mean you have to twist it good but the whole thing kill switch and all spins.

I want to order a good one with a metal tit.

Any suggestions on where to get a good one?

I also want to get a walbro carb and be able to adjust the fuel jetting from screws on the side.

Have you or anyone ever used one and what kind of performance did you get from it?

Thanks

You can glue the twist grip with "grip glue" (contact cement) but those plastic twist grips are garbage. Get a real motorcycle one new or used, a cheap metal one (ebay?), or a quad style thumb throttle. You are looking at $6-$20 for any of these options.

These can be bought with all metal parts. Get a new cable while you are at it.
Local bike shops will have wonderful cable for less than $10.

You have a bunch of problems and you want to add more, like a new unjetted carb?

I do have a Walbro carb I want to try, but TIME! I have no time to play anymore.
While a Walbro is a great carb for universal positioning, I've typically found it sucks fuel like crazy.
Seriously, if you cannot get an NT to work, don't be looking at a Walbro,
I've set up DoublePumpers, Thermoquads, PWKs, VMs, CNS, Walbros, the works.
The NT is FAR easier to tune, especially for someone learning to tune.
You are trying to mod your way out of basic setup work again, aren't you? :)
If you want to spend money, but a new NT. $11?

Hmmm, could the 1) Fourstroking, 2) No idle, 3) Reving up like the throttle is stuck
all be from an air leak on the intake side? It would cause all these symptoms.

Put it to "as designed" so you can solve the problems.
Do your mods one at a time and test them, so you can learn what works and what doesn't.

You said after you drilled the exhaust and put the stock carb back on it ran better but you 4 stroke alot and was trying to fix that issue as well as had very little power and couldnt make it up a small hill.

I suppose a throttle cable might cause low power if you couldnt open the throttle all the way but certainly replace it if it sticks on you.

Ive done what i can to help without having it all in front of me and wish you the best of luck with everything.

I ended up using a vintage motorcycle style for mine.

Part of me wished I didn't as the threads on the 90* throttle cable with my kit has different threads than my throttle so option is use the cable in my cable housing and make it work or do research and find something that can thread in.

Thanks man.

I can't stand the stock grips, I cut the throttle grip off and use BMX foam grips, you can coax one on the throttle barrel with some warm soapy water.

lol same way I feel about the included clutch lever. If the style with the kit came with a chrome handle id use it. But I ordered the ugly chrome handled clutch version and going to see how I can replace it with a different lever as I hate the hole in the chrome lever. If not then I just will get a plain old pitbike/dirt bike clutch lever and just wont have the locking ability.
