All the years riding MX, off road...enduro bikes...from gripping the hand grips super tight... I used to get huge, painful calluses at the base of each finger and across the palms of my hands if I rode a lot without gloves. Gloves became a necessity.
So when I moved to street bikes the gloves stuck for this reason.
When I started riding the motorized bicycles I just went to the gloves for the same reason.
Gloves are as much a part of the riding gear as a helmet.....always open finger gloves for feel on the controls.
If you go down rolling 40+ on asphalt or concrete then any gloves will definitely help you but......, you're in BIG trouble. Major injury and pain will most likely accompany the fall. At that point any additional personal riding protection is a bonus.
I've witnessed the unpleasant results of what happens to people when they go down on the street drag racing crotch rockets without proper riding apparel. After a few of these events I stopped going out to watch. Seeing it will ruin a Friday nite.
