Lifter Replacement In Pictures!

Question about the washer between the lifter and locknut. On my engine, the washer was only used on the exhaust lifter...I'm thinking this is not normal? And I assume it is required. If so, can I just get a matching washer at the hardware store or must it be this Whizzer part?

The washer is shown on the exhaust lifter in this pic, between lifter and locknut:

Sorry, can't answer that question. I haven't opened the motor once since performing this task. Maybe someone else can chime-in?

I checked the dealer service manual and it shows the washer only on the exhaust lifter. I wonder why?

Maybe this is what Hal the Elder was referring to in his earlier post?

Hi,

Washer is used on the exhaust lifter only!

The Compression release [lifter cover] has a cam that contacts the washer as the cable is pulled to open the exhaust valve.

The Later Ambassador and NE-r models didn't have the washer or release mechanism because they used an automatic compression release in the head [Did I mention it didn't work for long and leaked].

Have fun,
