I know you talk about loctite all the time what color do you use? I know its not red  that would be well permanant

Blue works fine for me, strong enough to not vibrate loose, but still easy enough to get off without the use of a breaker bar (or blowtorch)

Blue on just about everything.

I used red on a couple of things (high strength) like the exhaust/carb/motor mount studs. Using the red on the motor mount nuts allows them to stay tightened without over torquing them and stripping them.

I used blue on the mount nuts and had to re-torque one after about 300 miles. I used red on them and they are not coming loose.

There is one (not sure of the number) called "sleeve retainer", but that's pretty permanent.

Loctite also makes a great product for fixing stripped threads. It's faster and easier than a heli-coil, cheaper too.

Hey Joe, that locktite replacement for the heli-coils isn't a two part putty is it?

You know, it's been awhile, but I'm 99.999% it is....you mix it and put it in the hole, then there is a third liquid that goes on the bolt itself. You assemble the whole works, then after it sets you remove the bolt and reinstall whatever it was you were working on.

I used it on the primary chain tensioner on my old Hardley Ableson and it never gave out, I even loosened the bolt to adjust the chain a few times.

Loctite thread repair For-A-Thread STR1

Permatex also makes one, never used it. Part#81668

Loctite costs less.

how do you fix stripped threads with loctite? the carb manifold threads are gone and wont get tight.

Your question brings up a common problem. I hope this helps.

Loctite is an adhesives manufacture that makes many items, including thread lock adhesives. Many people refer to all thread lock adhesives as "loctite". It is kind of like Kleenex and facial tissue.

The product that was mentioned previously for thread repair I cannot locate. Here is a link to Locktite's website: http://www.loctiteproducts.com/

Here is a link to the permatex product that was mentioned: http://www.permatex.com/products/au...ad_repair/Permatex_Stripped_Thread_Repair.htm

Great job on searching and posting!!

I don't use any loctite product to repair threads-not quite as good. This is what I've used on all of my engines for a while http://www.timesert.com/ In fact, my knucklehead brother in law dropped my bike on his last ride and sheared the two front mount bolts. I couldn't extract the bolts and drilled them out and inserted timesert thread repair and it is GOOD AS NEW now. MUCH EASIER THAN HELICOILS I think.

BTW, I use RED LOCTITE on every part of my bike. If I need to remove something, some heat from my torch and/or heat gun is all I need to break the torque. Blue is too weak for me.

Question......if the product you use is made by permatex.....is it loctite?
