D, is that cable designed to pull at a 90deg angle? It doesn't look kosher. No doubt it works. Was it needed to make it work for your purpose?

It works just fine and does the job for a few years now...lol...It is a cable that I had made custom length for my bike over at the local bike shop here in town

Yes, that is a spacer, but the nut that you have on the axle is to hold the spacer on, you need another nut

That nut on the outside is the locknut, see how thin it is. You need one thicker with more threads on the outside to properly lock down the axle/wheel.

Yeah somehow he managed to use a jam nut,
Looks like he's got it all wrong, the axle is sticking way out and the wheel is ready to fall out of the drop outs
