So I've put near 2000 miles on this motor in the past. It has been sitting for about a year until this new bike build. I opened the clutch cover to grease and adjust the clutch as needed. And I noticed the spring under the clutch pad cover is missing. Now obvously, the spring is not completely necessary as I have apparently been running without it, but my question is what does the spring actually do? And what kind of damage can it cause not having one installed?

it keeps down rattling and helps to keep the lock screw in the slot of flower nut - I sometimes make one out of old piece of door spring laying around when it isn't there
