Motor for Ice tadpole trike

Hi everyone, I am moving from Ellensburg WA to Dayton WA in Nov and am trying to find a good motor match for my Ice T trike. My plan is to make trips around the area exploring the Blue Mts and commuting on occassion from Dayton to Walla Walla. Have looked at electric motors but batteries are not quite there yet though should be really improving from now out. I have checked Golden Eagle's site but they don't make a 20 inch kit so am still looking around for a nice quiet high mileage, clean unit with decent power for some long gentle hills. Will include pic later. Thanks!

there's lots of trike pics there. post a pic of your trike. we have at least one member building a recumbent trike. there are resources for 20 inch tire compatible engine kits.

I've heard a few folks talk about substituting a "bucket bottom" or aluminum whizzer type ring on wheels smaller than 24".

Hey thanks all of you for your input re: my Ice T situation. Tim in Colorado seems to be quite the creative chap! I would probably need to get some close up shots of this set up before I would be willing to take on the project but it sure is ingenious!

I am teetering between waiting for the BionX to come down in price and going ahead with a gas system during this time when battery technology seems poised on the brink of revolution. Seems that fuel cell technology is also "almost there".

I was attracted to the Golden Eagle site and almost decided to purchase a diamond frame bike but the seats on bikes have always been torture for me due to the old you know what! The other factor is that I love to ride my trike in the winter. A little more dicey doing that on a bike!

Anyway, thanks again. I know I need to post my trike so had better get going on that. Cheers!

Hi Doug, I have sent an e mail to the Portland folk asking for a quote. I expect that it will probably be quite pricey as it will be a customized job. Say did you hear about a new fuel cell bike being developed up there in B.C? Also interested to note that Smith Electric Vehicles from the U.K is about to start producing electric delivery vans and lorries (trucks!) in the U.S in conjunction with Ford. Production is due to start in Dec of this year. It's interesting how there seems to be an element holding back the electric car's progress while it is apparently o.k with the U.S gov to go ahead with commercial electric vehicles for short to medium haul use such as UPS delivery, postal delivery and inter city commerce. I am sure that there is plenty of technology out there for electric power to work splendidly in many personal applications for distances in excess of 100miles between charges. I think that the big oil in this country especially is holding back on the electric reins! Just a few rambling thoughts for you! Hope I didn't bore you too much.

P.S Lived in Vancouver B.C in 64 when first coming to N. America from U.K. Also have cousins on the island N. of Nanaimo, Parkville or Parkhurst or something like that! It would be fun to trike the Island some time with a little power assist of some kind! R

12 inch wide faux leather gel saddle ($35-40) on an adjustable shock absorber seat post ($18-20).

Once you try it, you'll never go back.

My brother took a stadium seat with back support, cut a banana shape on the bottom portion, covered the whole thing in yellow duct tape. Claims once you ride THAT contraption, you wanna sit on the bike and watch football on tv.

p.s. supply and demand, don't think e-prices will come down much, and theres not enough demand to get better range.

It's coming, but I think somebody here on MB.com will come up with a breakthrough better than any company.
