Tried a new chain, well lubricated, aligned properly with good tension, and I am still getting the clang-clang-clang noise, gets worse under load. Starting to think a defective sprocket (it's tight) or a bad clutch shaft bearing? Any other thoughts?

Yep, chain clears fine. The noise is coming from the engine, if I rock the bike side-to-side, you can hear the noise on either side of it (clutch in or out), almost as if they had missed a spacer or bearing in assembly. Now if I hold the back wheel, push the bike forward, and get the piston almost to TDC, it seems to tighten up whatever is loose in that drive train .I checked the drive sprocket, and clutch bevel gears, and they are also tight. This is a 5 day old engine with a few break-in runs on it, I'm thinking it may have to go back.
