My bike just about dialed in.

My first post. There it is, my first bike. Hiland MTB 66cc motor cleaned up internals, port matched, NGK plug, extractor exhaust, HP carb, 52 tooth rear sprocket and modified stock muffler. Stock internals and head.
Took a long time to make this happen, watched a lot of youtube and read the forums. This one is the best by far.
A few details, the extractor on it's own was way too loud so I put the stock muffler on which killed the power so I made it into a glass pack by gutting the internals, drilling several more holes in the pipe, wrapped it loosely with expanded screen and filled the cavity with fibre glass. Works great not too loud.
The stock rear sprocket was drilled to mount on the disc brake hub but found it way too fast and had no hill climbing power so I bolted the 52 to the 44.

Yup, I was fine other than racing stripes in my undies. My bike on the other hand, I had to rebuild on a new frame. I like the new frame more than the old though.
I'm glad to hear you are ok. I have seen this on other sites. Always with metal fenders, that's not to say it couldn't happen with plastic ones.

I don't think your plastic fenders are much at risk of what happens with fenders. The main reason fenders are dangerous are the supports. The fends mounts bust, then the fender falls on to the tire, but instead of then getting rolled over, the fender wraps around the tire because of the brace that is keeping it attached.

I was thinking just that. If I added some sort of wire or strapping as a brace would be more stuff to fall off and into the wheel causing grief. I had visions of me riding in most weather conditions but the truth be told I think it was just that, a vision. Lol.

Yeah, that's why I thought you set it up for dual sport. Fenders do.keep.your frame cleaner though

Thanks Guys,
I built this as a commuter bike that can climb hills, I wanted it to look nice and tidy. My dirt biking days are pretty much over. This bag of brittle old bones just doesn't bounce like it used to.
As far as how it runs, I put the hp carb for clearance issues only. The nt hit the clutch arm so I had to extend the intake so far that my foot kept hitting the carb. I would rather have the nt but I am slowly getting the hp to run nice after many jet changes,
I found a 3/4 in street elbow works ok as an offset. Lucky to find the right pipe sizes to make it happen.
I know I'm a day late and a dollar short to this hobby but am having a lot of fun with it.
‘Having fun with it’ is what it is all about in my book.

Well I've been having fun with it. I ride to work most days now. Really sparks me up thinking of how close the road is to my soft pink arse.
So far on the cheap HP carb i'm running a 68 jet, Seems a good compromise between too rich and too lean. Lots of lower end power, some of the hills here are 15% or more. Have to peddle a bit on the steepest ones. So I have to call it dialled in. I'm afraid to go leaner as I run 40:1. I'm thinking of going richer on the oil. That is for another day.

Dont wait for another day as your road situations with hills could be doing damage now...You want to be running no less oil than a 32:1 ratio, 4 ounces of oil to one gallon of gas as an absolute minumum.
