My HD Hub center threaded axle shaft sticks way out on one side, too short other side

Flip the axle.

You are going to have to flip the axle over to get the spacing that you want and then re dish the wheel. The axle has shoulders that act as the stops for the cartridge bearings, so you can't just loosen the lock nuts and slide it over. The hub from Grubee is spaced for a single speed freewheel on the pedal side, not a multi speed freewheel. I believe that member Alaskavan did a really nice thread/review of this hub showing with photos the steps necessary to flip the axle. I remember that it was a really very simple process. You might do a search for this thread.

Ok stupid question, but I if I understand the terminology right, what I have done is used a cassette on an HD hub. And Biketek says that can't be done.

So I'm doing it wrong. That actually makes some sense because what I'm doing isn't working out very well.

What should I do, in order so that I'm not doing it wrong?

I'm sure anything is possible, But its not designed to fit a cassette. The width is already almost too much for a bike, Hence the frame spreader.

I really don't care whether I have multiple speeds to shift through. Does that simplify things any?

I will look for Alaskavan's post.

All you need to do to make it fit right is get a single speed CW 35x1 freewheel and adjust the threaded axle as needed. Keep in mind that they are offset at the factory to accommodate the brake.

Cool.

Please point me in a direction that leads to [a single speed CW 35x1 freewheel and adjust the threaded axle as needed]

or a link to show me what such a thing as that looks like???

Thanks

Well I dont think I can do that to be honest without getting points for peddling my wares without the proper title under my name or have anything to do with the Q.
